The Unified Patent Court (UPC) will have jurisdiction to rule on the validity and the infringement of any patent application and European patent (except in case of Opt-out), including the unitary patents, as well as of the related supplementary protection certificates (SPC).
It will enter into force after the ratification of the Agreement on a unified patent court by at least 13 of the states having signed the Agreement, including France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
The countdown is launched and, according to the latest available forecasts, the unitary patent and the Unified Patent Court should be inaugurated in September 2017.
